The Scranton Debate connection
Not everyone knows I was on the debate team in high school. Scranton's schools were strong in that area. For me, it was an outlet to my smartass behavior, something my most recent job also allowed me to express. This trip in Europe has had it's share of connections to Scranton's debate teams. The day before I left for Europe, I ran into my old debate coach Pat Cusick, who I hadn't seen in 4 years. Next was the visit to Greece where I visited Paul, who had judged a few debate tournaments when I was in high school. Continue to Lithuania where I stayed with Tony who was on the debate team a few years ahead of me, and saw Dan who was also on the debate team a few years ahead of me. Now in London, I stay with Mike, who is my brother's age and was on the debate team for a rival school. I was in one of the London metro stations today and randomly bumped into Margot Douaihy, who I hadn't seen in years. She was 2 years behind me on the debate team. There's some sort of underlying theme here, either having to do with debate or with scranton. In addition to these scranton connections, I have my swedish cousins and Linsen who is now living in scranton. small small world.
